The most common
sight in the Gallery was people leaning
over to closely inspect the specimens, while others
read the Artist's Statement and Biography on the end wall
....
.... and checked out the "how they are made" display in the end
cabinet
I put out examples of threads, dyes, tools and wire.
I included some reels of dyed threads that are used for stems and
stamens, some stitched out but not finished leaves and blossoms in
an attempt to tell the story of how the specimens are made.
Working drawings, sketches and colour tests occupied the lower
shelf of the end cabinet.
Some early pieces, including the very first piece I made for the
Art & Design for Embroidery course in 1995 (pink
leucoxylon, front right of this photo)
