The first display case showed the various
colours of Eucalyptus leucoxylon, which grows throughout the
southern areas of Victoria and South
Australia
E leucoxylon was the first piece I made back
in 1995. I was lucky to find some pieces of yellow bark for
the display. I also included some imitation bark I had made
using silk fusion. The red leucoxylon is sitting on a
ceramic mount made by Carol Kenchington of Canberra
The next display case had Mugga Ironbark (E sideroxylon),
Bottlebrush (Callistemon viminalis) and Queensland Silver Wattle
(Acacia podalyriifolia), taking us up the east coast through NSW and
Qld
The Callistemon was a minor triumph - I've been working on
refining my construction techniques over the last 10 years and this
attempt was nearly right.
The pale wattle is A victoriae, which I
found around Alice Springs, flowering in September. The yellow
wattle is A stipuligera which I found across the Barkly.
Delicate white flowered E eucentrica is a local around Alice
Springs
It is really hard to get a good photograph
through a glass case - you can see the reflection of the information
panels hanging above.
